The Last Shipwright: Saving a Vanishing Craft

One of our current initiatives is The Last Shipwright, a project dedicated to preserving the ancient art of shipbuilding in Sicily. The Rodolico Shipyard in Aci Trezza has been in operation since 1808, representing a living testament to Sicily’s rich maritime history. With the decline of traditional fishing practices and the rise of industrial materials, this centuries-old craft is at risk of disappearing.

But this is just one of many efforts aimed at nurturing the island’s cultural and environmental legacy. By traveling with Emotional Sicily, you become part of a movement that helps sustain these irreplaceable traditions and protect the land for years to come.

What We Are Doing

Commissioning a traditional wooden fishing boat, preserving techniques recognized by the Register of Intangible Heritage of Sicily.
